Sail Martha’s Vineyard is pleased to announce that its 2017 Masters Licensing Class has completed its course work and sat for the four hour USCG exams today, Saturday, April 1st. CONGRATULATIONS to Gail, Anne, Greg, Dan, Jesse, Malcolm, Jeff and Mike for passing first time through. Great job.
Each year beginning in January we offer a United States Coast Guard certified 100 Gross Ton Masters licensing course with Sailinf and Commercial Assistance Towing endorsements in collaboration with Mariners Learning Systems. The course consists of eighty hours of classroom instruction. Students also need to allow for additional study and review time in order to prepare for the exams which are administered by Sail Martha’s Vineyard on Island.
In addition to the classroom instruction Sail MV will guide candidates through the entire certification process, a service that is not offered by any other program. Captain Andy Hammond, currently a Sail MV Advisory Board member and former Executive Director of the Boston Pilots Association and prior to that Chief REC Officer for USCG District 1, Boston, , will advise students seeking Coast Guard certification in preparing the required documentation for submission of their application folio to the Coast Guard for evaluation.
Students who are not necessarily qualified for Coast Guard licensure (“Academic Students”) are welcome to enroll.
- USCG APPROVED 25, 50, 100 Ton and OUPV…$1,350.00
- ACADEMIC STUDENTS $1,1500.00
If you are a year round resident of Martha’s Vineyard and are approved by the USCG to sit for your exams AND you will be using your license for a commercial purpose, you may qualify for scholarship support through the Permanent Endowment for Martha’s Vineyard. Scholarship applications will be made available at the Organizational Seminar.
An informational and organizational meeting is held early in January each year at which time a schedule that works best for the entire class is determined. Typically, the class begins with a weekend (Friday afternoon, Saturday and Sunday) session and from there on meets two evenings a week through March. The date, time and location of this meeting will be posted here in early December.
