Sail Martha's Vineyard

Maritime Studies Program:

Sail MV, in coordination with the MV Regional High School has developed an alternative educational track to be incorporated in the vocational department of the High School. The Maritime Studies program is structured to train students so that upon completion they will have mastered the requirements to test for an Able Body Seaman’s license issued by the Coast Guard. The High School has approved the offering of the Program under mentorship and/or work-study guidelines and has assigned specific faculty members to work with Sail MV to assist in the development and implementation of the Program

The Program’s curriculum is designed to provide core seamanship skills as a prerequisite for entering any of the experiential courses made available by Sail Martha’s Vineyard’s corporate partners in developing and offering the Program. A student entering the second semester of his/her sophomore year is eligible to enroll in courses made available through at the Steamship Authority, the MV Shipyard and  Gannon and Benjamin Railway, Inc.
